As we were headed out to the plains in the morning, we saw this fine group of animals, including several adults and a bunch of little hoglets. All I could manage was an "Ooo!" while pointing in their direction. The guide said, "Oh yes, pumbaas." I asked if that's what they called them and he replied, "Well, they're warthogs, but that's what you Americans call them." I made sure to inform him that I know exactly what a warthog was and that I never referred to them as a "pumbaa." He seemed surprised.

Haha yeah. I told him for the record that I also know that "simbas" are lions (unless you're speaking Swahili) and "timons" are meerkats (although we didn't see any).
Yeah, maybe some people call them "Pumbaas" because of the Disney's film "The Lion KIng". For that reason, meerkats should be called "Timons". jajajaja
Pumbaas?! Well....the guide was probably right about 80% of Americans.
Thank you for giving safari guides hope that all Americans aren't so naive
(Totally loving the Africa pictures by the way)
